A Beach the way they all used to be.
dez de 2020
The locals would rather not advertise this place as they want to keep this little piece of paradise all to themselves.
If you like busy with people everywhere and lots of cafe`s then this place is not for you.
But a stunning quiet beach with a relaxed and laid back feel.
Never too many people around and the locals all say hi.
Surf club dominates the beach and there are plenty of picnic tables along the beach front.
Dog friendly for most of the year.

The end where the cliffs are is quite serene and better for swimming. More people spend time here as it is not dangerous. However, along the coast which is quite wide there appears to be one roller coaster that comes roaring in. I witnessed a few people who swam between the flags go crashing into each other, thrown by this one powerful wave. The life guards seemed to have a good time.

One of the best places and beach around. Best quiet and relaxing holidays ever. Beach is so relaxing to walk and fish from. Town is so good to get around.

Amazing views!
mar de 2019 • Casais
We walked the beach back and forward and loved the views and the lonelyness. The sand was tidy and, as the beach is enclosed by cliffs on the sides, there are no extreme winds. Still, the waves come directly to the beach, ideal to surf and swim.

Beautiful little beach with some surprises
mar de 2018 • Amigos
I loved this little beach which is pretty much the center of this little town that had a cafe and real estate office . . . and residences. There were exotic birds, great cliffs, one of which I climbed, striking sunsets and sunrises, a hike through the woods to a hidden cove and a blowhole (you have to know where to look - ask a native - better, have one show you). It's also a good location to visit other sites. We did have to travel to get dinner, but, I got to see another town.

Beautiful Little Secret
fev de 2018 • Casais
Beautiful beach which we visited in February and despite being "busy season" it was really quiet. Great for a swim but some side to side rips to be a little cautious of. THe public toilets near the surf club where clean and in good working order.

Perfect for a chilled beach day.

A lovely stretch of beach in Whiritoa
fev de 2018 • Casais
We visited Whiritoa Beach on a weekday and it was virtually deserted with a few people and gulls dotted here and there along the whole stretch. The white beach was glistening in the summer sun and was a fantastic place for a stroll, we enjoyed our time there.

A little out of the way, but very "laid-back NZ"
jan de 2018 • Casais
Whiritoa is a small settlement, not many permanent residents, mostly beach batches, with a small dairy/general store.
It has a great "laid-back, old-world" NZ feel. Lot's of the people know each other and stop to chat.
Its a quite big beach, so no problems getting 20 (or 50) metres of private beach space to yourself. There are some interesting 1-3 hour hikes you can do each end of the beach, the northern one goes over a couple of headlands into next beaches with no people at all.
The only negative would be the sea, the waves come in with some force and "dump" quite big waves right at the beach edge. I would not recommend it for young or those who were not confident in the water.

Fantastic beach to relax and explore.
Is not as big as whangamata beach but is a beautiful spot where you can enjoy and go with your kids to have a fun and safe day!

Don't go there
jan de 2018 • Família
That's my selfish perspective. The fewer people who go there the better.
It's a beautiful beach, with surf patrol at peak times.
It's long and wide, with mainly white sand, albeit black at the river mouth.
There's a blowhole at one end, a river and lagoon at the other.
You're only a 10 minute drive form all the cafes and restaurants of Whangamata if that's your thing.
But there's a secret too - another bay hidden around the corner, only reached by sea or on foot. Absolutely gorgeous, with safe swimming for kids and still great swimming for adults too.
No toilets at this hidden bay, no drinking water, no facilities, just a natural paradise.
