Quiet stone circle to provoke your thoughts of the past...
out de 2021
My wife and I visited this ancient circle during our road trip around Scotland. It is well-signposted and easy to find. There is a small car park at the end of the lane, on the left. It has an honesty box with a suggested donation of £2. Otherwise, it is free.

The car park is small, but we parked at 10am easily. Walk up the lane from the car park, and you'll see the circle on the right.

The circle is old, and there are many ideas as to why it is where it is, and its purpose. The quiet here will let you ponder answers for yourself. Well worth a visit when in the area.

Very interesting site. The site geometry reflects careful construction. The stone wall surrounding the ring process an interesting perspective to the stones. Simply fantastic.

Built to last for eternity.

On my bucket list for years. Easy to find, car park near to it and short easy walk to. Well signposted. Hard luck for an earlier US visitor who searched the car park and couldn’t find a stone circle in it so gave up.

The area is dominated by the lone hill, the Mither Tap or Mother Top. She is covered in rocks and surrounded by Neolithic stones like the beautiful maiden stone. The circle here might have been religious, ritual, astrological, social status or all of these motives to give up work on their scratch farming to spend weeks, if not months, sourcing, digging out and dragging stones to the wee hill. My heart always goes out to the ancestors on Islay who dragged many tall stones to a site, dug the post holes then were told stone circles were going out of fashion so left them flat.!

A lot of Folks see a stone circle as farmers of old said - "jist a rickle o' steens" - a heap of stones. I see a link to my ancestors in the North East worthy of awe. The place on a dark misty day or sunny late evening will reek of atmosphere I am sure. Well worth a visit to make your own mind up what it means to you.

Interesting stone circle
jul de 2021
The stone circle is easy to find as it is well signposted and very well kept in a lovely setting with great scenery. The circle is quite close to the car park and the board has fascinating information on it.

Quiet & Serene Stone Circle
jun de 2021
A most wonderfully tranquil setting for these stones.

Easy to find, well sign posted and maintained well.

Well preserved set of Recumbent Stones which includes some very large ones.
Set in a beautiful landscape, you can hear a pin drop there.

Very calm and relaxing to visit - you won't be disappointed.

There is a small place to park just before the Stone Circles. Visit later in the afternoon for the extra atmosphere.

Short walk from the car park. If you like your stone circles then this is a must when in the north east of Scotland. There is a small honesty box to make a donation in the car park along with an information board.

Ancient Stone Circle near Inverurie
jan de 2020
This is an ancient stone circle that has a very small car park. Once you park up, you walk up a hill to the stone circle, if you have your dog with you please ensure a lead is used as there are fields of farm animals and farmers who do not want their property upset.
Once at the stone circle you will find a plaque that tells you all about it. It was built before Rome and was built with Bennachie insight. It is a fascinating place to spend half an hour imagining who would have been there, what purpose was it used for.
After the circle, there are some great walks through the forest area.

Quick stop

We just stopped very briefly to see the stone circle. Information boards, lovely countryside and looks like also some walks/footpaths. Space for approx 5 cars, surprisingly full when we were there- assume some people were walking as they weren’t at the stones.
