Had an awesome beach dive and a bucket list item checked off when seeing a white tipped reef shark in a cave not far off the beach.

On our last day in Maui, @sarahsiscokid from DiveArmy.com treated us to a wonderful pair of shore dives at Makena Landing Five Caves. This is a beautiful dive with reefs and caves stretching along a wall from the beach. Definitely worthwhile if you have time after completing the essential dive in West Maui: Mala Pier.
Makena landing has parking and decent bathrooms. Entry into the water is very easy at the beach. Beginning divers should be comfortable visiting the first 2-3 caves, but you may want to bring an underwater flashlight to view the caves from the outside: more advanced divers can go inside with a flashlight, but I recommend a guide if you have not visited the caves before. Before taking on a 2nd dive to caves 3-5, make sure you have strength in your legs for long kick back to the beach from cave 5, which can be done on the surface.
Our guide @sarahsiscokid is a marine biologist and photographer, which made our dive truly special. We purchased about 100 photos of us and many of the reef residents that Sarah's trained eyes turned us on to. If you can arrange to dive with Sarah, it may be your best dive on Maui.
Note: I have no affiliation with Dive Army or @sarahsiscokid. This is a customer review.

Simple life of swimming with the turtles. It is a small, sandy beach in a lava rock cove. There is a public toilet here and parking for about 20-odd cars.

The beach at Makena Landing has hard packed sand with lava rock formations on either side of the small bay here. When the rollers are not crashing on shore too violentlly, it is a great place to snorkel with a good sandy entry. There are numerous green sea turtles foraging along the shoreline where you can swim amongst them. It is a very picturesque part of the coastline where the cinder cone Puu Olai fills the far end of this stretch of beaches. There is a Black Sand beach near the foot of Puu Olai and a trail up the 350 ft cinder cone with views of Little and Big Beaches. On the right side of parking lot facing the ocean is a gravelly cove where green sea turtles haul up to gather the warmth from the rocks. I saw 12 there on one particular morning. The are around here, about six miles south of Kihei, is called Turtle Town. Well worth the trip to a less travelled area near Wailea.

This small beach park has a rocky shoreline and a quite small beach. What it lacks in a sandy beach is more than compensated by being a great place to snorkel and/or scuba dive. One of its most notable features is it being one of the most accessible coral reefs in Maui.

We stopped off here after spending the some of the morning at the Ahihi-Kinau reserve. It's much more accessible than the preserve, but the aquatic life wasn't as widespread, at least near shore. A number of snorkeling/kayak tours do stop here, though. The beach here is nice for those in the party who don't want to snorkel.

Great place to Snorkel! You do NOT need to pay for a snorkeling tour in Maui. Rent gear at Snorkel Bobs and they will tell you where to go. One place is Makena Landing (NOT Makena Beach.) Free to park; free to visit; small beach with immediate access to good snorkeling area. My visit was after a pretty big storm so water was big murky but still enjoyed variety of fish and sea turtle. Pack a lunch and hang out. Very chill. Locals come here later in the afternoon (after tours are gone). On south side of island past Kihei, you will drive past some very nice places and a super fancy mall to get here so you can also make it a shopping day. Will definitely return on my next visit and make sure I come during better snorkeling weather.

This is actually pretty cool but small spot. Our group went to Haluaka beach to try to snorkel and stuff like that but that beach doesn't show you too much unless you get close to the rocks (that's where the reef is btw).
So we tried to get to close as turtle town as possible, but do yourself a favor, if you value your life, don't go off the lava rocks unless you are a damn good swimmer. Looks dangerous.
So the next best step is Makena Landing and it's small. Small beach area, but there's decent snorkeling there. There are turtles here too so you don't really have to go all the way out to turtle town!

Came here as the second part of a snorkeling tour. It was fantastic spot with coral, fish and many turtles. Two turtles
were face to face with me and grazed me. Super experience.
Would go back myself again.

Drove by, found easy parking, asked where we could see turtles and saw about 5 lounging on the rocks. A very nice person who lived nearby allowed us into her gate to get a better view. Mahalo!!
Amazing place to snorkel or shore dive.
