We didn’t actually get to visit the grounds because of Francine but we saw the outside as part of the Haunted Pub Crawl!
The story connected to this place is truly entertaining and a little hard to believe.
Be sure to check if they’re open for your visit.

I had heard stories about this convent and finally took the museum tour this afternoon. The convent & museum are very beautiful, and our guide Sarah was very knowledgeable of early New Orleans history, the earliest church influence, and what a big part the Ursuline Nuns played in history. She answered all our questions and is a wealth of knowledge. The convent includes lots of incredible artifacts, including relics of saints dating back thousands of years. Very impressive. It's worth the time spent to visit.

The Convent Tour is wonderfully informative and a peaceful break from the busy streets of the quarter. We were there about 45-50 minutes but you could spend more time if you like. If you are lucky the convent archivist, Sarah, is a great guide.

What a beautiful convent, with such rich history. Our guide, Sarah, is also their archivist, was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. We very much enjoyed it.

Well worth a visit, for the complex history of the early influence of the Urselines -- who have in fact not occupied the site for many years, having been displaced by the church fathers.
Tip for visit management -- the website is not a wonder of clarity, and you can't book tickets in advance. The door to the street opens just before the tour hours, when tickets are sold, and there is no control over the size group to be admitted. We were there ten minutes early, and in good weather -- other conditions could be problematic.

very interesting history that was fold us by a guide. She talked but didn't actually walk around with us - that we did on our own (which was a bit strange). The place is huge. Nuns lived here, it was also a school, an archbishop's residence and housed orphans, etc. Walking room to room you will encounter many displays and artifacts. Attached is also the St. Mary's church (completed 1845) which has the original pine and cypress ceiling. Impressive, the central entrance hall, is the original staircase from 1734 and a clock from 1727 that is still in working order.

This off-the-beaten-path gem has a great history that I was happy learn about. The place is beautiful...a wonderful contrast to the many atteactions in the French Quarter.

Currently, the tours are offered at 10, 11 & 1 thurs, Fri & sat. We went on the 11 am tour today which I recommend over the 10am tour bc Phillip did not have another tour until 1pm & said he wanted to give us a full 1.5 hr tour, which he did & even stayed around later for questions. He & his parents are/were life long residents & he packs a LOT of stories into his tour. It is extremely interesting even if you are not catholic as he includes info on New Orleans history as well, including in depth burial process at the cemeteries.
It is also a fabulous value for the price paid for ANY tour in nola by far! Phillip also answered questions that were off topic from the “convent tour” & had info & stories for this too! He is a wealth of info, friendly & approachable. Ask him anything!
Once the tour is over, you are free to look around again (LOTS of stuff to read) & take pics & use the bathrooms. No cafe: just a water fountain. Including Arriving a few min early, we spent~1hr& 50min here.

A really nice museum. Beautiful gardens, statues, and stained glass. Loved learning about the history of New Orleans and how 80% of the city burned down and this museum was saved. So it's a great way to see one of the oldest buildings in the area. Only open for a few hours and tours are on the hour so make sure you plan ahead.
