This place is truly surprising if you do not know about it ahead of time. It is free to enter and explore the beautiful grounds. The Visitors Center is located in 1902 barn and it is a good starting point.
This time we only visited the surrounding grounds and admired the buildings exteriorly. Renfrew Museum and Park is definitely the place to go back to and visit both "inside and out".

Visited the museum with my nephew for some historical education and was very pleased with the personally guided tour by staff. My nephew asked great questions regarding the grounds, reason for the separate houses, and development in which he was given great answers by staff.

Great place for walking, communing with nature and taking the time to enjoy your surroundings. I love the magic of the secluded forest trails, old builings, and the sounds of the proverbial babbling brook. What's not to enjoy.

We visited on a cold, gloomy October day, expecting just a museum. It is so much more. The buildings and cemetery originated in the early 1800s and there are easy walking trails to barns, the site of the griss mill, the houses and more. We learned too late the one house could be visited for a small fee. We declined as the rain was starting and we had to continue our journey. Otherwise, the park is free.

I was simply going to visit some people in the region. I saw this place and thought about visiting it. After my visit, I went in. There is a great story to this site. It is definitely off the beaten path, but a trip worth making.

Attended several events/festivals here, hiked trails, guided parkers in car lot, laughed at Shakespeare in the Park, thought once-fallen-down-but-recently-restored limestone kiln behind "back farm" would be great for Easter sunrise service. Have yet to tour the mansion house of the main, "front" farm.

My son and I enjoy walking through Renfrew Park and take pictures of some of the beautiful scenic views. The main house is stunning, alongside the beautiful massive barn. The history of Renfrew is very interesting too!

I drove down to visit this place to scope it out for a Photoshoot. What a pleasant surprise!

First, this park is much larger than I thought, with two distinctive sections...a lovely, tranquil picnic area across a small bridge opposite the farm house and the rest.

The rest is what I would refer to the “museum” part, as this is where you will find assorted structures, with signage indicating the original use.

I walked past the large three cupola white barn heading towards the farm house. I took a few minutes to stand on the small bridge over the stream, sounds of the water cascading over the rocks and streambed mixed with laughter from some people playing with their dog down near the water.

I continued walking the trail which runs along the stream which was on my left. I eventually came to a large well kept area filled with very tall trees. Quiet and idyllic.

There is another bridge to cross over the stream. Staying on the same side I had been on I spied another path which continues running along the stream but I kept walking and at the top of a small hill found another building with the proverbial picket fence. A lot of squirrels were playing up in the trees and making quite a racket.

Keep going to find a small red barn, and a large field of corn. I ended up taking the cemetery trail between gorgeous trees creating a wonderful canopy to walk under.

If I had continued to the top of the trail there are benches on the hill which allow for a break and offer an expansive view of the entire area. Next time.

So, if you are in the area and looking for a break from the everyday hectic world we live in, head here.

This is a hidden jewel less than 30 minutes from Chambersburg. It is situated in beautiful open farm country. There is a historic house and outbuildings along with a visitors' center. Our guide was excellent, took her time and told us many interesting facts about the farm. She answered all our questions and more. The visitor center had a large display of pottery that was made in the area. We also walked along a few short trails. I would definitely recommend Renfrew Museum and Park to anyone interested in history, pottery or just a nice few hours away from the busyness of daily life.
