Me and my two grandsons have been coming here to camp and fish here every year for the last 6 years and plan to keep coming for as long as we are able.
Permit needed (Free online)
We have the place scoped out for fishing and have our favorite secret (Honey hole) pond we like to hike to on our last day (Usually stay 2 - 3 days.)
Camping is free and campgrounds are well kept and scenic.
Fishing at the ponds near the roads will not yield you much fish, but if you are willing to hike to the dozens of deep woods ponds, then you will find the rarely fished ones, and let me tell you... you literally have to hide behind a tree to bait your hook, there are so many fish!. We use google map to scope out new prospects, and had a great time last year. My grandson catching his PB 4.3 pounder Going to check out a few new places this year and I can't wait!
If you like hiking, fishing and camping, then you cant beat this place.
Just ensure you know your way out if you venture in the woods and print out a map to the local urgicare in case of an emergency. Knock on wood we never had to use it. Please leave the place clean and enjoy!

The ReCreation Land is one of the best places for outdoor fun in the region. This hike took us five hours. We started at Dyes Fork at OH-78/83 and finished at Wood Grove Campsite. A little swampy in some parts, overall excellent hike.

Printed off the permit and pulled in on a Saturday, late morning to find a decent spot left. Recommend that you get there earlier to secure one of the lakeside spots in the Bicentennial campground. Restrooms weren't great but it's what you'd expect from a hole in the ground. The view is nice and we drove around the grounds to find some nice areas to just stop and take in the sites...

Myself and two friends spent a week motorcycling the twisty back roads in Eastern Ohio. We made our base camp in Sand Hollow campground (Camp C) in the AEP Recreation Land. Free (permit required) well spaced camps with nice lake views, potable water available, no electricity, well packed gravel roads and vault toilets. A couple of negatives, the mosquitoes were fierce so bring spray and/or a Thermacell for the table. Unpleasant would be the kindest word for the toilets as in minus two stars on the rating.

My husband and I along with our 3 dogs camped in the Bicentennial Campground K for Labor Day weekend. My husband went early Friday morning to pick a good spot so we had enough space for the dogs so they wouldn't bother anyone. We stayed at site 13 in Campground K right next to the water, had our own trash can and a short walk to the bathrooms. Drop toilets are drop toilets so you get what you get. Ours had plenty of cobwebs and little flies everywhere which honestly was no surprise, but it was full with TP which was nice. My husband said he picked up a lot of small trash to keep our dogs from eating something they shouldn't. Once clean up was done and we arrived the rest of the weekend was rest and relaxation despite a rainy Saturday. We saw lots of birds. A resident swan, green herons, blue herons and small turtles sunning on a log. Bring your binoculars for sure. We saw a lot of fishing as well. The space we were in was big for our dogs to be on lines and to have a little space to run around when they get their zoomies. Nice, quiet and peaceful. We would go back again.

Gorgeous space, but... it is a reclamation project AFTER they stripped the land to get the coal... Still beautiful, but....

Enjoy driving the scenic countryside and picnic, camp, fish, or hike. Make sure to get a map from their web site in order to find many of the ponds and picnic areas.

This is a huge multi use area ( hiking, bridle, mountain biking, camping, hunting, fishing) free to the public with a use permit you can print out online. I think it's great the land is being reclaimed, but I am a little sick of every website and every roadside sign clapping AEP on the back for doing such a great job. True, but who strip mined the land and ruined it in the first place? Also, AEP donated a good chunk of land to create The Wilds, but I'm sure they got a nice tax write off in return and also no longer had the responsibiltiy or liability for that land. About 100,000 people a year visit the ReCreation lands so it is still fairly unknown although it isn't far from Marietta, Cambridge,or Columbus. I hope it stays that way because it only takes one idiot to ruin a good thing for everyone.

We arrived at K Bicentennial and it was full. So we went to Sawmill which was almost full but no water. Went to C Sandhollow about half full we found a big water front site and set up. We had a pop up and a large 10 person tent and 3 small 3 person tents. We were all spaced out had plenty of room. Latrines were clean but stinky as is expected. Water pump was useful. Campground C is huge. Very nice and well kept without interfering with nature. This was our 1st time dry camping and i did the research we did great! Must bring a shower bag and a shower tent thing is awesome. We had kids from 5 to 18 everyone caught lots of fish. Dads took kids to A Hook lake across road for an afternoon they had a great time! There isn't any cell service within 25 mins of camp so print a map of the area and Mark all the aep campgrounds so if one is full u will know how to get to another they are all relatively close. I believe all are off rt83 except K which is on Lincoln highway which is off rt83. Food, gas, save a lot is 30 mins. Rt83N to rt340 Right another right till it ends then a right.. U should have service by this time. Also in this area is signs for wolf run state park which is about 2 miles and has a beautiful beach. Map it... Then go past the state park sign for camping to beach n boating sign.
I advise driving the whole campground C is huge. And bring as much fresh water from home as u can depending on ur group size. U must have a permit which u just print off the aep site and sign and date. Caretakers also have permits. Read the rules. Quiet hours are 11pm till 7am. No generators during that time.
This place is awesome and beautiful and free please leave it better than it was when u arrived. :)
