The excursion organized with the beach boys included a stop on a strip of sand where you can see the starfish and to follow the snorkeling in the body of water in front of Tumbatu where, however, we would not get off.
On the tongue of sand there was only our group and so we made up for the bolgia found instead in Nakupenda. The snorkeling in front of Tumbatu was satisfying according to those who dived, I can not judge personally having remained on the boat. In Tumbatu you can also go diving.
If I return to Zanzibar I would like to try a tour of Tumbatu

We had an amazing time at Tumbatu Island. Everything was arranged by Tanzania Horizon Safaris and our driver Cholo. The skipper, John, prepared all details for the boat excursion to this beautiful island on our excursion. We drove a bit further outside along the reef because John advised us that there will be more to see. He told us to be very careful for not damaging the reef. Overall we felt that the company really cared for the environment. They provided water in glas bottles that were reusable and they made sure that nothing falls inside the water to avoid any trash. We spotted some very beautifully colored corals and lots of underwater wildlife. The provided food platter was super yummy and they also organized some refreshments after for the relaxing time after the snorkeling. All in all, a very memorable experience.

Did a snorkeling trip from the Riu water sports operator.
The reef on the west side of Tumbatu was devoid of color and showing great signs of distress. A lot of broken stag horn coral. Very little sealife to see.
I was saddened by the entire, dreary experience. To make matters worse we encountered numerous tiny jelly fish. The dive master had on his wetsuit but there was no warning for the guests.
(I’ve been diving more than 55 years in the Pacific and Carribean and remember when…..)

Lucas is the ultimate guide for Zanzibar! He's incredibly friendly and professional. Not only did Lucas help plan the perfect itinerary for our stay, but he also organized a stunning wedding for me and my wife with seamless coordination – from transfers and decorations to music, photography, and a fantastic lunch. Our families enjoyed every moment, and Lucas made sure everyone had a great time. We did the Mnemba Island trip, where we had a delightful seafood lunch, witnessed dolphins, and even swam with them. Lucas also provided a fantastic tour of Nungwi and Kendwa, showcasing the best spots. The spice tour amazed our families with the island's diversity. Lucas efficiently managed all our transfers. For an unforgettable Zanzibar experience, Lucas is the go-to guide!

CORAL DESTRUCTION AND WASTE(FR suit)
After some research on the internet, we decided to go snorkeling in the Tumbatu area. We met a guide called Zubé. He organized the excursion for us, paying a cab driver and then a captain with his boat. All went well, except for the way things were done:
-Throwing the anchor in the middle of the coral, which destroys everything in the anchor area.
-The area is really not that good, I feel like half the corals are dying...
-You indicate that there's a garbage can on the boat... strangely enough, once back on the beach you see the same plastic bottles etc. lying everywhere.
Quite expensive even after a lot of negotiating ($200 in total for 4 people from 8am to 12pm, with 2 hours by car and 1h30 by boat, i.e. a 30-minute snorkeling trip...).
If you want to preserve what little is left of this environment, I beg you, don't do these excursions anymore. I know there are plenty of reviews saying it's beautiful etc., but these people don't look any further than what they see in the foreground.

I took a snorkeling tour from the sports center attached to the RIU. Started with a debriefing, what to expect and life jackets. Jumped on the boat for a 30 minute ride to the island I believe 6 miles away. One of my best snorkeling experiences right after the great barrier reef. Obviously not as vast but saw so much, so clear, many fishes, the corals, sea snakes, sea cucumbers. It was one of my best excursions from the resort and so easy to get to. Great guide as well. Definitely recommend this quick trek off resort. I used a simple phone cover and was able to take pics and videos under water.
