We absolutely loved Night Woods. The music and lights on the grounds were lovely. We cannot wait to go back this Summer for the gardens. Stop in to the Barrington Brewery on the way home

As a Berkshire native, I have been several times and they were all entirely different experiences -- all of which were outstanding.
Most recently, I attended the "Night Woods" art installation / tour. Although it pops up annually as Christmas approaches, it is not "Christmas Lights." It is a beautiful sound bath with lights installations on the grounds surrounding the mansion. It was so amazing, I lingered after I reached the end -- I didn't want to leave. Touted as a 3/4 mile walk on a trail around the property, it probably took me about an hour. You can't help but pause and stare at the changing lights in each spot while the music builds. I was transfixed by the colorful "fireflies" dancing up and down the trees while I was immersed in a musical experience that fit so beautifully. There are no words to adequately describe it. One setting is a "glass garden." Like icy bells filled with jellyfish and light. It took me by surprise. In an awe-inspiring way.
In the fall of 2022, I attended a "ghost tour," led by author and ghost tour guide Robert Oakes. This was a weekly scheduled event through September and October (I think twice/week, actually). He's a captivating speaker, and being there after dark was a whole new experience. I highly recommend it. It starts in the stables where I genuinely felt unsettled. The mansion has "good juju" and I didn't mind feeling like it might be haunted.
I have been here for daytime tours. The house is beautiful, and it's worth going more than once as the gardens evolve from tulips and springy things to summer botanicals as the season progresses.
There are ongoing events that are worth looking into -- book clubs, outdoor bird talks, hard cider & cheese pairings, a lecture about "floral design through the ages," and readings of Wharton's works (just to name a FEW). There used to be jazz performances on the grounds each week in the summer that were amazing.
If you've been once or twice, go BACK. It's always a new and special experience. And they are blessed with REALLY friendly staff who are attentive and helpful.

Night Woods at The Mount was a delightful walk through the beautiful grounds. There were light and music stations on this 30 - 45 minute journey. It was very creative and sort of spiritual. Very nice winter holiday trip.

Our visit to the Mount and night wood. Went on a Friday eve early. Was plenty dark enough and not too many other people. Loved the dark path way lighted with torches. The music and sounds with the lights dancing to them was amazing!. I felt immersed in the experience . You could see, hear, and even feel the lights and sounds. Highly recommend

Nightwood. I liked it. Parking is easy. It is well lit and the ground is level. You stroll at your own pace. There are guides all along the route. The grounds are lovely all year and in winter with gentle music and lights. Calming to the senses during this busy holiday season.

When in the Berkshires a 'must do' is The Mount. Don't be fooled when you pull into the lot. From the lot there is about a 5 to 10 minute walk to the house.
Buy a guided tour ticket, you get much more out of the guided tour then you would get on a self guided tour.
The visit should not take you too long unless you stroll the grounds during your stay.

NightWood is a must do for anyone who loves nature, light, mediation, music and a romantic walk through the sparkling woods. It is also a welcome respite from the holly, jolly and merry barrage of bright red and green decor that is typical this time of year. It is a magical journey toward, into and through the light.

Are we free to roam the grounds without paying admission fee?

We visited on a Tuesday when the house is closed. We were able to walk the grounds, enjoying the beautiful gardens and admiring the house. We also enjoyed the SculptureNow installation among the trees along the walk from the parking lot to the house and surrounding the house. It was worth the stop!

Hello! I’m wondering if picnicking is allowed on the property, and If so, is it just for food purchased at the cafe, or might we be allowed to bring some of own food as well to accommodate the different (annoying!) dietary needs of some family members. Will we need to make a reservation to tour the property/gardens?
Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks so much,
Amy

Sorry for late response, was traveling. No, Unfortunately I do not recall the color of the dining and have no photos either.
But, if you were to call them I am sure you would receive a precise answer. Good luck
