I was so excited to catch a comedy show here. We decided on a late night 11pm date night show. after fees about $70. The show lasted about 50 minutes. It flew by. It's cool it was all improv but it wasn't very funny. It was just ok. For the cost I had higher hopes. The food and drinks were expensive and not good. The curly fries weren't curly. The pita chips for the humus were stale and gross. I would give another show a try as the staff were all really nice and maybe the show we saw that night just happened to be meh.

I think our expectations were too high, but all in all it was a fun evening! One guy in particular was awesome and I would think will eventually be picked up by SNL. There are snacks and alcohol available for purchase with servers coming by to get orders. ALL the seats are good and you can see we’ll from anywhere. No need to pay extra for seating.

My husband and I are in town and we decided to have a special couples night out. We went to a performance of “Swipe Right.” It was fabulously fun. The cast was great. They were right on target and quick on the fly. My husband and I were the inspiration for one of the skits. Don’t go to Chicago without checking out Second City.

Had a great experience - we had tickets to the 10pm show because the 7pm was sold out. However we took the train to that neighborhood to take in the culture. We swung by just to see if they had a stand by list - I wish I got the sweet girl’s name (behind the glass) but she got us in with better seats and no up charge. The.comedy was fresh - the ad libbed lines were NOT well rehearsed - very talented troupe and can’t wait to come back. Great service too.

We did the Revue and I gotta say, I really wanted to love it. Maybe I just had a false sense of what I was in for.
Of the six cast members, two were outstanding, two were ho-hum, and two really should rethink their calling.
Here's the thing. The Second City has such an amazingly rich history of churning out fantastic comics and I get that. But, the reputation was the past. This current show had 1% improv and 99% sketch comedy. And they felt tired of the sketches they are performing. Were there some biting commentaries? Yes. Were there some good one liners? yes. But nothing felt original. Nothing felt off the cuff.
Truly felt like I wasted my money. Bummer....

We did the $10 comedy show with our teenage kids the last night of our trip. It was great. Despite the groans beforehand, everyone had a good time. Out of the note and off the electronic devices for an hour! We would do it again for sure!

Second City hasn't lost its charm of the many years that I have gone to shows. The cast is fun and the crowd gets into it. Very Fun!

We saw a show the main stage (careful there are 2 different entrances or buildings). The show was definitely scripted and I guess I was hoping there would be more improv. It was a 10:00 show and made me wonder if these were the backups to the 7:00 show. Definitely some laughs and I would have preferred more improv. The show was about 2 hours long.

We came here while visiting Chicago. We saw the “Do the right thing..” show. The performers were excellent, so funny. We thoroughly enjoyed the show and the “extra” act at the end. You should go see a show here!

I just bought premium tickets for a Friday night 7pm show. I would prefer to be in the rail/balcony seating. Is the seating on a first come, first serve basis? Do you get to choose where you sit within your category? Any info would be much appreciated!

Which show did you see? We need help picking a show. Some reviews here on trip advisor are terrible but I think some depends on what they saw.

There is an add on for Roots Pizza dinner package. It requires reservations but neither Roots or the reservation app has this restaurant as an option to reserve. Has anyone tried this place? Would you recommend eating before a show?

Hi, thanks for the Second City review on TripAdvisor. Can you tell me which show you saw? We are going on Sat, May 4th and, there are 2 different show names that night; one is called "Algorithm Nation or the Status Quo" and one is called "The Second City e.t.c.'s 43rd Revue". Which is the better one?

It depends on how mature the teen is. For older teens, it’s probably okay. But the humor is sometimes crude and it could be awkward to sit through with your child. Hope this helps!

What time should we be there for a 7 p.m. show?

It used to be that first come first seated, however, now you should have reserved seating. They open the doors an hour before showtime. I usually get there 45 minutes to an hour early especially if you are driving. If you are driving there is a small lot across the street that’s easier to get in and out of. Parking isn’t cheap in Chicago. Uber or cab saves you the worry of driving there if you are at a hotel in the loop. Enjoy.
