We had a phenomenal time with our guide Huckleberry for a 2 hour horseback ride. It was filled with a ton of laughter, info about the surrounding area, as well as some good old fashion horsing’ around. Being a horse girl, it’s hard to find people who really “get” me. But they really did at Aspen Meadow, and Huckleberry specifically. Thanks for an amazing day! Would absolutely do this again!

What a great family trip! We did just a 1 hour ride as I wasn’t sure how my son would do. He absolutely loved it and was asking to come back for a longer ride before we were even done. There are picnic tables so you can sit and eat lunch before or after your ride to even better enjoy the visit. We were matched up to horses based on our experience. The horses were so well behaved. We loved it and can’t wait to come back!

The Aspen Meadows team created our best horse pack experience of over a dozen trips in multiple states. The staff is very customer centered and ready to accommodate. They are committed to making the best of the whole experience (animal care, food, camp site, trail detail, comfort...). The staff are happy, entertaining and engaging.

The horses me and my children were paired with did not have a good temperament for children or trail rides. Our visit ended in a near tragedy. Someone was watching over my child that day. There was no instruction or introduction on handling the horses. Perhaps if you are an experienced rider then this would be the place for you. This was not a good choice for us—inexperienced and young riders. We will not ride horses again.

My daughter and I had a great 2 hour ride - no other riders - just is and the leader. Beautiful views and nice wooded areas as well. Horses were not just nose to butt - they will follow your directions.
This is perfect if you don’t own a horse and want to get out on the trail.

I haven't ridden since I was in middle school maybe (for reference, I'm 25). My friend arranged this as a fun activity on our road trip, and I couldn't have been happier about it! Everyone was incredibly friendly and helpful. We did a 2 hour ride, and by then end I was already thinking in my head of when I could get myself back to California to do this again.

Our leader was knowledgeable and engaging. It was such a fun experience and I can't wait to do it again!

Cowgirl #1 and I reserved an all day ride that turned out perfectly. We arrived as the wranglers were doing the morning saddle and were pleasantly surprised when they all came over to were we were checking in and introduced themselves. Seth went out of his way to spend some time filling us in on things. We had our own but were offered saddle bags and a water bottle holder to carry on our horses.

Wyatt led our group which consisted of one other couple. We left around 9 and onto a beautiful trail through the tall trees and boulders out to the ridge and turned east and enjoyed some gorgeous vistas, including El Capitan (Yosemite) in the distance. Wyatt was a very good wrangler, making conversation and paying close attention to us and the horses. Wyatt's hunting dog, Remy, accompanied us and provided great entertainment chasing chipmunks and patrolling ahead. The horses are good looking, healthy, strong mountain horses. The tack is of good quality and well maintained. The trail has some challenging segments with loose rock and the rock hiker's staircases which, unlike me, the horses took completely in stride. We encountered a number of hikers who all politely stepped aside for us to pass. Smart move because as a hiker myself I know disputes between those on foot and those mounted on 1500 pound animals seldom end in the hikers favor.

At noon we arrived at Camp Lake, a lovely crystal clear alpine lake. Each found their own favorite rock and in our case dined on PB&Js, Tanka and Clif bars. Some took naps but my Granite Perfect Sleeper was a bit too firm and I couldn't seem to find my number. I walked around a bit and saw a hiker catch a nice lake trout.

At 1:30 we remounted, backtracked on the trail a bit and then headed down off the ridge to the aspen meadow far below. Quite the trail going down but the sturdy horses know their job well and soldiered us safely to the meadow. Nice long, flat ride amongst some of the largest Aspens and biggest Aspen grove I've ever seen. This will be Midas golden in another month. We did keep a sharp eye for timber rattlers but none were to be found.

Turning back north we climbed our way back up the ridge. Most of our ride was above 7500' and you can almost pinpoint a certain elevation as suddenly there are a plethora of Silver Tip trees. It's like Chtristmas! Once again these were the tallest Silver Tips I've ever seen. The climb back up is nice and again heavily treed and populated with some huge boulders.

We arrived back at the pack station at 4:30 and were heartily greeted by the staff. This was a perfect day and we thank everyone at Aspen Meadow Pack Station, especially Wyatt, for making it special.

Seth, the co-owner was our packer both taking us in and retrieving us, and it all went very smoothly. The trip was during their peak season (late summer) and they were fully booked on the departure leg so we left a little later than he anticipated. On the return, he told us he would be there to collect us at 10:00 AM, and was actually 3 minutes early! Remember that he had to get up at 3:30 AM to actually do that. The staff, equipment, and live stock all seemed to be up-to-snuff, and the location for our trip was based on his recommendation and proved to be a good choice.

My group did a drop trip into Wood lake August of 2015. Owner Josh was easy going and friendly. Seth packed us in and told us about the area as we rode. He put us in a good spot on Wood lake and rode to a spot he could pasture the horses. He stopped in the next day to check on us as he was bringing another group out from another area. To my surprise he brought us that groups extra beer as he remembered we had only packed hard liquor. These folks are good people and will go the extra mile for you. It was such a good experience I scheduled for 2016.
Keep up the good work.

Josh, the owner of Aspen Meadows Pack Station and his crew did a wonderful job. We were there at 7 am and he had our gear packed on 6 mules and on the trail with 11 horses in 1 hour. 5 hours to Deer Lake where we camped for 5 nights. We were even lucky to be delivered an ice replenishment mid week! By foot, we explored Buck Lakes, Red Can Lake, Karl Lake and areas in between. We would have done more hiking but we had 2, 5 year olds on board with us. Rough granite surrounded us with beautifully treed meadows and streams. No bugs in August....delightful! Lots of fish but we had a difficult time catching them with flies, bait and lures. Josh, Doug, Snacks, Chad, Jim, Norman, Seth and Carly, thank you all for a wonderful trip that will be in our family's memories forever.
