The winery is closed, from what I hear
mai de 2019
I was looking for the Murfatlar winery earlier this year and was told by a number of people that it went insolvent.
It's possible as their wines are no longer on the shelves.

Leider insolventen Traditionsweingut

Aber man kann die hervorragenden Weine in weiss, rose oder rot in Flasche oder 5 Liter Kanister zu unschlagbar günstigen Preisen mitnehmen.
Charme der 70er Jahre im Foyer,für damals sehr edel.

Difficult to visit
out de 2017 • Casais
The winery was one of the best in Romania but has fallen out of grace in the last few years. Most of the wines under this brand are no longer bottled here...
Also in order to visit you need to join an organized group and you cannot find anyone on the weekends there.

Definitely a missed opportunity.

Not overwhelmed, nor underwhelmed - just whelmed

Trying to organise a wine tasting was a disaster as the person in charge of tourism was off on holiday for a week. Murfatlar prides itself on being the largest wine seller in the country but they didn't have somebody else to deal with tourism. We eventually booked our tour and were met by the fantastic Dan who knows so much about his field. The museum and tasting room are a little shabby but they are hopefully going to invest in this next year. We had the premium M1 wines which were really tasty and mixed with Dan's knowledge, we had a pleasant afternoon. Not really worth coming off the motorway for but if you have some time, check it out.

Premium wines tasting, cellar & wine museum
set de 2014 • De negócios
The host was great from all points of view and he really made us feel special.
The hall where we had the premium wines tasting looked exactly like the places where the communist leaders used to enjoy the good life. I really hope they will keep it like this so more guests have the occasion to step back in time instead of just enter another standard modern hall for wine tasting.
We also visited the cellar (there is a part where they manufacture the luxury wines) and the wine museum full of both old and actual stories not only traditional devices.
At the end we had the great pleasure of buying 2 of their best premium wines (already tasted - Lacrima lui Ovidiu 12 yo and Leat 6500 The origin Cabernet Sauvignon & Merlot) at only half of the price these are sold in high class restaurants.

Avoid Murfatlar winery

There is nothing special about this winery, a bit of a tourist trap on the road to the seaside. Over-priced wines vs what can be found in shops in Constanta. Could not sense the history of the place. Disappointing.

Very enjoyable visit !
set de 2013 • Amigos
We visited this winery as part of an included excursion on an Avalon Danube River cruise, so we were part of a group of about 150 people. We were treated to a sampling of four wines then had a 3 course lunch of traditional foods, accompanied by a Sauvignon Blanc. During the meal we enjoyed some local entertainment -- singing and dancing. All of this took place in a large circular hall with long tables radiating outside a central staircase and "stage".

The meal was good, although some people did not enjoy some parts of the meal. The wine carafes could have been filled more often.

Worth a visit.

A worth while experience!
ago de 2013 • Amigos
I had such a good time. Had several wine samples including: Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and several really good whites including Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. They had dessert wine too but passed on these. As we where with a large group we went into a large (140 people size) receiving area. Dark wood and table set up allowed for a central 'stage' area in front a a central set of stairs. Here we were treated to entertainment...singing and dance, while we enjoyed our three course meal. Food was excellent traditional food.
The grounds themselves are huge, 7500 acres...seemingly endless rows of grape vines. I found the staff very friendly. Definitely a place to visit or to go back to!
