We had a local guide to bring us around for a soft trekking experience.
It's better to just walk and experience local live their daily life. Seeing lively school kids hanging around at the convenience shop shows kids are the same everywhere.
This village seems more well to do than the Lao Cai village. by looking at the condition and style of the house, there's a difference that you cant missed for sure.
Had our home cooked lunch in one of the house here. The food was delish and suited us pretty well.

Went on a 2 day 1 night trek from Sapa to Ta Van village. We started at 9am in the morning at our hotel, walked through a few villages and rice fields, staying overnight at the lovely Tavan Homestay. 2nd day we trekked through a bamboo forest, up a mountain and to a waterfall, stopping off at a village for lunch and were driven back to Sapa. Our tour guide Giang Cha was amazing and from the local village. She was very friendly, funny, informative about the local area and super accommodating. As it was very cloudy, didn’t get to appreciate the scenery completely but still a great adventure! If you want to book directly with Giang Cha (and skip the tour agency taking a cut of the fee) you can reach her on Instagram at giangcha65, or WhatsApp her on + 84 91 482 15 46

We went to Ta Van Village by car which went right upto the village.
We enjoyed some great views from the road that looks upon the village from a height.
This village is like a quaint little paradise as compared to Cat Cat. Highly recommended.
I don’t know from which side of the village we entered, but there was a cafe cum spa as soon as one entererd, Offering some superb views and good food.
Our driver dropped us here and we explore a bit of the village on our own. We hadn’t taken a guide as we had no intention of trekking. We explored the village a bit. We saw a school, many small homestays and another picterusque cafe .
One thing that marred our experience was the village women selling souvenirs who literally thronged us in a group, kept trailing us till we bought something from them. They just wouldn’t let go and it was really invasive.

This village and surrounding area are beautiful and the scenery is so nice. The ride there, the views from the road, the rustic town, and other nearby areas of interest like the Bamboo Forest are worth a visit. We really enjoyed our day exploring this area.

Sapa is now one huge construction site. It was dusty in most parts. Away from the roads, in the highlands, it is still breathing taking and well worth the 12km trek to the village. Sunscreen, cap and umbrella and water are vital.
The tourist dollars is highly sought after in this area so be prepared to be hustled by the numerous vendors (womenfolk of all ages). Numerous construction is also seen in the village.

This was a wonderful trek into the Ta Van village. Fresh air and away from the hustle and bustle of city life. We enjoyed the scenery and people were friendly. It is normal for locals to hard sell their products and if you are a regular traveller, you will understand how to deal with them as they rely on tourism for a living. We had an excellent tour guide who prepared us for the local sellers and explained their circumstances. Well worth the visit.

It's a great place for trekking. We really love the terrace paddy fields and the way local people treat us. When we stop at a local house, we were invited to see all around their house and got introduce about their local daily life. They're so friendly and very kind to us.

I do see some young tourist walking but we engaged a guide. And yes Lao Cai is very touristy. Ta Van is still very rural.

We have booked an overnight in Ta Van. Can we get there by motorbike (hired) from Sapa - and do we need a special licence to rent a motorbike or scooter?
