We (2 families - 4 adults and 4 teenagers) booked a 3 day, 2 night trip with Portugal Kayak to experience just a small part of the Douro River and what a great success it was. From start to finish Rui, Carlos and Miguel helped make it a fabulous experience leaving us with little to do other than kayak the beautiful Douro River, eat wonderful Portuguese cuisine and stop overnight and two terrific agroturismos.
Don't let the price tag put you off as it's worth every penny. I can highly recommend. Portugal Kayak run a very efficient and organised operation and Rui and his team are delightful company to spend time with.

We have just returned from a 3 day Kayak trip in Portugal organised by Rui and assisted by Carlos and Miguel.
We are 2 families with 4 adults and 4 kids between 12 and 16 years old. The whole trip was absolutely fantastic. The 3 chaps were a delight to spend time with and the effort made by them to ensure we enjoyed ourselves was unsurpassed.
We met in Pocinho and were given great kit. First day 5 km to lunch. We were expecting a stale roll and an apple but no. Carlos and Miguel were our chefs and they had prepared a super riverside picnic with wine and beer. After lunch we swam then 7km paddle to finish point. Back in minibuses to first nights hotel on a vinyard. Great rooms and food with the 3 guides joining us for dinner. Next day 12km to lunch and another billiant picnic. I didnt do the afternoon paddle as I wantted to move my car to the end point to make the drive to Porto airport easier on the last day. Rui sorted this and despite me causing delay, it all worked out in the end and we had a great railway trip back to the hotel which was abolutely super. Dinner in a local restaurant with the chaps then back to bed. The last day was about 12km again with the added treat of passing through one of the locks. 30m deep!
Final lunch then home. The scenery is breathtaking. The food and wine is incredible and the company is outstanding.
This is *****kayaking. I cant think of how the experience could be improved.
Rui ownes a kayak shop and knows all there is to know about rivers and the area. If you want a guide in Portugal he is your man.
If you want a fun trip and a taste of the country i highly recommend you book with these guys. Well done.

I took the 10-day Douro Kayak trip with Jack and Rui in September 2017 and enjoyed every minute. The company was great. The guides were so much fun and made the trip really memorable. The food was delicious all along the way. And, yes, the paddling was good too. This is a great combination of kayaking, eating/drinking, staying in interesting places, and some cultural outings. For me, it was an ideal vacation! I definitely recommend Douro Kayak/Portugal Kayak.

We spent 8 wonderful days on the Douro River kayaking from the Spanish border to Porto. Unbelievable experience that puts you in touch with the local beauty, history and culture of the Douro valley. The guides were exceptionally diligent and fun (Rui, Carlos and son Jorge, Jack). The accommodations at night were scenic, and the lunchtime meals on the river were delicious. I recommend that you are physically fit to paddle 10-15 Kms per day (which is not too hard!).

My wife and I did the two day trip (Douro River Flavours) with Rui in June 2018. I’m posting this review somewhat late but I still remember it as a highlight of out time in Portugal. Rui's colleague Filip drove the van to a meeting point each day and had a fabulous lunch waiting for us when we arrived. Our overnight stay at Bairro do Casal was great and Rui had arranged dinner for us (included), at Restaurante Bago D’ouro, which served a very good traditional Portuguese meal (with more than enough food). Rui was very likeable (as was Filip) and very informative with lots of information about the river, the history, and the Quintas (wineries). The landscape was lovely and the pace relaxed so I had plenty of time to take photos. Portugal as a whole was a delight, and our trip with Rui was fabulous.

Carlos and his son Manuel met us as planned at Regua station and took us to the slipway. We had a double kayak and Manuel came with us in his single as our guide. This was the half day trip and we paddled downstream with the current but against the wind for 15k, with a short break halfway.
After leaving Regua area the scenery was beautiful, and we were lucky to see an eagle. We were passed by a few larger river boats but keeping to one side we weren't unduly affected by their wash.
Carlos and his wife, and the dog, met us at the lunch stop with a fantastic picnic, with beers and coffee from the local cafe. After lunch they drove us back to Regua, though we could have paddled a further 15k.
We had a fantastic day made better by the one day of lovely weather in a wet and windy week.
We can thoroughly recommend this company and their personal touch and attention to detail. A great day!

While staying at a villa/winery in the Douro River Valley my wife and I booked a day trip through Portugal Kayak. Our guide Carlos arrived promptly at 9:30 and took us down to our launch on the Douro. This was my wife's first experience in a Kayak and we were pleased to see a fibreglass tandem waiting for us. Carlos was an entertaining, informative and gracious guide. He was so very considerate, pointing out many unique features along the river, always asking how we were doing, keeping us hydrated and doing everything possible to make sure we were enjoying our trip down the river. He prepared a wonderful lunch which we truly appreciated during the 15 km paddle. Our tour was done in sunny 34c weather when we got to our take out we were met by Carlos's wife and together we enjoyed cold brews at a local bar a wonderful way to wrap up a wonderful tour.

I went on a three-day kayak trip on the Douro river with my two children (16 and 19 years) and we had a brilliant time with Rui and Filip. Rui, the manager of the company, was great right from the moment I contacted him, and answered all emails quickly. He is also an incredibly competent kayaker, with experience from all over the world. The trip itself was well planned, with ample flexibility and time to relax. Our guides were very knowledgable about the beautiful areas, not only when it came to kayaking, but also the local culture, history, food, wine, natural environment, etc. Equipment was also first class. It is hard to think of nicer people than Rui and Filip, and I can thoroughly recommend kayaking with Portugal Kayak in the exceptionally beautiful upper Douro Valley.

Portugal Kayak teamed with Douro Kayak Expeditions to provide our trip from the Spanish border down to Porto along the Douro river.
Rui and his team (Sofia and Fernando) provided all the equipment, transportation and support, and did an amazing job. Thanks, guys!

Two of my sons and I took the 2-day kayak tour of the Douro River this spring. What an awesome experience. We had a incredible experience seeing a part of the world that many people never see. So peaceful on the river. So beautiful.
What I loved is that we went at our own pace. It was our tour. Our guide Rui was such a great guy and took care of so many details in the background. Not everything went according to plan, but he was great at adjusting and rolled with the punches.
Our overnight on the trip was at a little farm (Quinta), which at first sounded interesting, but there are a bunch of little homes that are rented out as part of the excursion. We had a barbecue that night and my boys had a great time playing a little soccer. Nice little place.
Two days was probably just right for new guys to kayaking like us. Rui and his team went through a lot of work to make it a nice excursion for us. I really appreciate the work the put into our trip and the experiences we had. Rui even sent us a bunch of photos he took on the trip to help remember our experience.
To start our tour we took a train from Pinhao going East to Pocinho, where Rui picked us up with the gear and we got started. We the Kayaked back to Pinhao to our car. Worked out great. Another member of the team, Pedro, drove the back roads to meet up with us every so often to check on us and take care of the other arrangements. It was great planning ahead on their part. We enjoyed getting to know Pedro as well. Great guys.
The experience was well worth the investment. I would do it again tomorrow if I could.

We are senior citizens and are hoping to visit Aveiro in May. We have done a couple of half day kayaking trips in Florida to see manatees and saw somewhere that it was possible to kayak in the lagoons around Aveiro. Is this so and if so do you have dates and prices?
