We really enjoyed our time visiting William A Switzer Provincial Park. The staff at the Visitor's Center at Kelly's Bathtub were knowledgeable and friendly. It was nice to enjoy mountain views without the crowds of the National Park. We enjoyed hiking Kelly's Bathtub trail as well as the trail along Jarvis Lake. We checked out Gregg Lake Campground as well, where there are canoe and kayak rentals by the boat launch.

Great bunch of uncrowded lakes for kayaking or paddle boarding connected by channels. Clear, clean, cool water even some fishing. Lots of great day use space at Jarvis and Kelley’s bathtub. Many quiet campsites not in Jasper national park but close to it.

We booked a couple nights camping in August.
Lucky to get a spot but then we had to cancel.
The full charge was $90 for both nights, no power or water at the site.
Still not a bad price consider it’s prime season in the mountains.
But we only got $29 back as a refund.
There is absolutely no doubt our spot would be filled and the campsite wouldn’t lose a penny.
I thought a $60 penalty was a bit steep.
How often does this occur in a season?
I think they’re making a lot of money from cancellations.

Switzer Park is a year round adventure playground that really flies under the radar. Best known for Jarvis lake and it’s campgrounds under official Provincial Government operation, it might be even better known by locals for the outdoor recreation opportunities offered by volunteer groups. Winter provides a truly world class cross country ski area at the Nordic Centre which catches and retains snow more effectively than other centres in the Province. Really challenging terrain with easy options for beginners offer sometimes for everyone (classic and skate). There is also a fun little toboggan hill. Please support the volunteer operations with donations/memberships, positive feedback or by writing letters of support to the Province. Summer hosts access to incredible mountain bike trails. Pedal into Joachim Valley and the new cabin for the easiest family adventure (still remain bear aware and prepared for mud and adverse weather conditions). The more advanced blue/black diamond bike trails reside in/out of the Park, namely the Froehler Coaster system. Check the trails out on the trailforks app. Otherwise, explore the wildflowers and strawberries along the Nordic trails, paddle Jarvis creek, hike the Athabasca Tower lookout trail and try some non-service camping at Graveyard Lake. When in doubt, ask a local for advice and reach out to bikehinton dot com and hintonnordic dot ca. Remember, write those letters of support!

Kelley's Bathtub at William Switzer Provincial Park near Hinton, Alberta on Highway 40 is such a beautiful hidden gem and you can buy ice cream at the visitor center on a hot summer day. Kelley's Bathtub is a perfect place for water boarding, water activities, kids playing on the beach, and having a family picnic. The park is free and there are no crowds like you see in Jasper, Banff, Canmore, and Kananaski. Highly recommended.

We stayed at Gregg lake provincial park. It was a beautiful campground, clean bathrooms and nice hot showers! The park rangers put together fantastic learning presentations that the whole family enjoyed. I highly recommend this for families of all ages. Another great plus is your close to Jasper and Hinton.

Did not expect to find this park on drive north to Grand Prairie. Nice visitors center with ranger with lots of local knowledge. Beautiful views of mountains and lakes with swimming allowed in small lake.

Which of the three campgrounds would be the nicest for a couple in their fifties with a travel trailer, senior dog and two kayaks. Hoping to go in September,

William A Switzer Provincial Park is approximately 4 and a half hours drive from Lake Louise. It would be closer to find a campground in Banff or Yoho National Park, Canmore or Golden, BC

I want to book a campesino at Gregg Lake Campground with my 26 ft trailer but are unsure which sites have power and water? Also are all sites "RV" friendly? Thanks in advance.
Sincerely,
Garry

I believe they have some power/water sites if you're willing to pay more. Most sites are power only, but there are water taps nearby. The Lakeside loop sites have no services. The water is potable, but I brought my own jugs from Safeway in Hinton for drinking.
