We recently visited during the October half term with a 6 year old dinosaur phonetic who was very impressed. We parked at the NT Spyway car park, (if your a member it’s free,) and took the advice of photographing the map as advised. We found it very straightforward to find and once there although a little damp from the rain our son was amazed.
I appreciate some people have been underwhelmed but it’s a real dinosaur footprint in stone that’s been there for millions of years and not a Disney attraction. But maybe that’s just me. Personally my 6yo and I were both throughly impressed and as long as you don’t mind a walk it’s well worth it.
If you don’t mind a bit further walking we followed the NT map and walked further down to a footpath that took us along the costal path and to dancing ledge another spectacular natural phenomenon.

The prints are not the easiest thing to find as they are not well sign posted but are a 20 minute or so walk from Spyway car park. If you didn't know what you were looking at you could easily think they were potholes or something - amazing to think that something like this once walked the earth and left the evidence behind.

Stimulating your imagination that on this site once these giants strolled around leaving footprints of more than 50 cm. It is not a large site but there are hundred footprints but most lare ess visible. Put Spyway Carpark (National Trust) in your navigator and then it is a 25 minutes walk. Alternatively there seems to be another care park (Action Lane Car Park). We actually parked before Langton House to the left in a new constructed housing area, which was for free. Access to the Dinosaur site is free.

Very different from most attractions!
Stand in one of many large dinosaur footprints!
A shallow quarry.
No other facilities. Just admire 100 million year old evidence of past life.

I have to say i was very inderwhelmed. From the NT car park at Spyway it is quite a tough walk to the quarry. Do not attempt if you have problems walking. The route takes you mainly along farm-tracks and then across a field to the exposed area with the footprints.
I'm afraid all I could see were various blurry indentations in the stone. Perhaps interesting to an expert, but to me they could have been anything ... just a collection of indentations.
Hmm. A shame really.

The directions were a bit vague, but we found them easily. There isn’t much at the site but it’s definitely interesting and the walk is very pleasant

Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!! How amazing to stand where a Dinosaur trod 140 million years ago. Lots of footprints to be found here and it was worth the long walk on a chilly windy day. It's easier to get to if you park in the NT Acton village car park and is probably a 1/2 mile walk which would be perfect if you are walking with young children.

Seeing these fossilised tracks was an amazing experience. It is reckoned that the footprints were probably made somewhere in the region of 140 million years ago by some of the largest animals to have walked this earth. The footprints remained fossilised within the rock strata for millions of years until, quite by chance, they were uncovered by two quarry workers in 1997. To see these footprints was for me, a very humbling experience. Makes you realise that our time on this planet is so minuscule and seemingly insignificant in the grand scheme of things. Also, that life has continued since the demise of the dinosaurs and evolved such, puts into stark perspective how crucial it is that we do whatever we can to allow the natural world to continue and be there for many future generations (of every species).

This was on my list of places to visit, particularly as it was next to a lovely, scenic walk along this part of the Jurassic coast. We had a dickens of job finding it because, if you type in 'National Trust Spyway' on Google maps, it takes you round and round in circles because it can't tell you how to actually access the place. You need to type in 'Spyway Carpark' instead and that takes you up a very uneven unpaved road from Langton Matravers. The walk to Dancing Ledge featured some good views. You can then return via Priests Way which takes you past the short track to Spyway itself. You might say the dinosaur footprints were a bit disappointing but they are quite unique for England. Keep in mind their age and how different the climate was at that time. It's a pity the NT didn't put more information up and didn't even provide a seat! So, go for the walk and the footprints are a bonus.

This is not really what I was expected, it was a fair walk from the car park to see only a couple of dinosaur footprints in a field, that being said, from a zoologist, it is worth a visit as it is quite something standing next to giant footprints that were created millions of years ago.
