é um garantida great. Como a canção diz... "Mmmmm, I Love This Bar!"... e assim I. que se sente como casa me agora...

Friend recommended we check this place out, it was not quite what I expected. Live band was ok, cash only for drinks. Basically just a square room with some tables a stage and dance floor. Fight broke out between patrons at one point. Would not go back, we stayed till close and they basically yell at you to get out.

The wild. wild west run amuck (and we loved it!)
dez de 2014 • De negócios
I had the pleasure of working at the Gold Range Tavern, with a band from the states I was touring with at the time, back in 1989. Upon arriving at the hotel during daylight, it just seemed it was another unkempt hotel/bar along the way which we were used to. After we settled into our dilapidated rooms, which were provided to us free of charge as part of the performance contract, we started the process of unloading the equipment van to the Gold Range stage in -30F degree cold. It struck us funny that it really was like the wild west in NWT because instead of "tying" a person's horse to a post, they were "plugging" their car into a post (electrical outlets for a car's engine block heater, to prevent cracking of the engine block due to the extreme cold).

Our first night was a blast! We met and partied with the staff who were all great people and didn't put up with any shenanigans, yet as the days went by, they let a lot of things "slide". Afterwards, we were dubbed the affectionate term they give their visitors, "Strange Rangers", and proceeded to play for the next two-weeks, pretty much without incident or any lasting bodily harm! LOL!

Highlights:

- Blindingly drunk guys peeing in the corners.

- People stepping over people who were passed out cold on the floor, not seeing anything wrong with the picture.

- Crossing ice bridges/roads to get there! (Ice Road Truckers???)

Awesome place to go
jun de 2015 • Amigos
Myself and my wife convinced our group of 15 to go to this place after reading the reviews. Some were a little nervous as we walked up to the place and our local host told us ensure no one is left alone in the place. However, we had a great time there and had no issues. The place was almost empty when we got there on Friday night, so we took over one section of the place to listen to the live band. It wasn't long before everyone was up dancing, talking to the locals, chatting up the band. etc. The place did fill up and was packed by the time we left (which was closing time). Maybe it was the fact that we were a large group, but everyone felt safe and would definitely go back. Of the four nights our group went out, this bar became their favorite.

Depend what you are looking for....
I will skip the PC here and just give you the simple description.
I lived in Yellowknife for 3 years so know this place well as it is a bit infamous.
Here's what you need to know:

1. The Goldrange is famed to be in the top ten bars in Canada in terms of the amount of liquor they sell.
2. This place has been around and is a bit of a legend. It is one of those places you take tourists and visitor's to just to say they have been there. It's like an old western bar in the far north.
3. It isn't unusual for cops to end up having to bust up things or even shut the place down.
4. They have the craziest live bands which will play anything from Michael Jackson to old style country.
5. Their clientele consists of everyone and everything starting from students to tourists to 75 year old aboriginal grandmas busting a move to a country tune.

This is not where you go if you are looking for a classy night out and I wouldn't suggest going there alone either. However, it is the place you should go to and see at least once just to say you did. Don't overdress. Don't bring valuables. And better not to stay past midnight unless you want to risk getting a couple of your teeth knocked out by what is usually an already toothless man.

I was in a band that played there in often. In 82 and 83...Leif was the manager then. He once lived in London Ontario. I recall heading back to Ontario Dec 21 1982, once we packed up the truck after our last night in town. I turned to the girl
I was seeing then....Karen.....and said "look at the *^%#}"c the thermometer! It's minus 48 F*
The bar rocked every night! That place will always hold a warm spot in my heart!
The crunching of snow under foot, the northern lights dancing just above my head, having my ear pierced by the lead singer of a band from Vancouver island called life at a post gig party. I want to return one day..... My visit notbDec 31 2013,,.but 31,years prior...that date wasn't in the drop down

a rough, old school country and western spot
Came here with a local person, it had a live country band going and there are plenty of rough characters about partying like it's going to be the end of the world. It is neither fancy nor impressive, one would go here for a drink or two for some people watching.

Probably the BEST bar in Canada
dez de 2011 • De negócios
Okay, this is coming from a girl who was born and raised in the beautiful NWT...if you are in YK for any reason whatsoever you MUST check out the "Strange Range"...Saturday afternoons you have your jam sessions where you can see local musicians and/or the band of the week providing some great entertainment, and Thurs-Sat night is THE place to be, the joint will be packed no matter what - get there by 6 pm to get your table of choice or it will be standing room only. It's a people-watching heaven, but do not laugh at the drunk person who has their pants around their ankles or you will be considered a true blue [--]. The Gold Range is the kind of bar where anybody is welcome, and I have seen doctors, lawyers, you name it, they come in and have their drinks, have some dances and it's okay. I know a lady who met and eventually married her doctor husband, and they met at the Range. Up here everything is accepted, and I miss the place for it's simplicity, beauty and total acceptance of different cultures.
I live in Alberta now, and travel for work all over Canada and I love my stops in YK where I can let my hair down and have some fun. It's always a blast. If you like the bar scene you won't regret your visit to "the Range".

Mmmm... I love this bar!
set de 2011 • A sós
Accustomed to "upscale" places in town for socializing (none of my friends were particularly interested in dancing to live music), it was quite a shift for me to put the crazy stories I'd heard about "The Strange Range" and supposed risks to personal safety aside and venture in all by my lonesome one evening late in Sept. after doing a volunteer gig at NACC.

This was my second summer in Yellowknife and I was determined to finally experience this unique place, seeped in so much history and cultural significance, a place where common people hung out and had fun - even if it meant I had to do so alone. I was yet to explore the place because of all the gossip I'd heard - primarily from people who had never even been there I might add. Not being one to feel limited by my gender, I finally decided to step out and take the plunge - in spite of flying solo, and in spite of thinking I'd be too well dressed for the place.

Frankly, I had an awesome night. A friend introduced me to two-step, as well as a few people who danced there on a regular basis, and I was in seventh heaven. I have a passion for dancing and have been going at least twice a week ever since. The band, The Welder's Daughter (ak in the past as the Karen Single Band), is absolutely terrific to listen to, even better to dance to, and they're wonderful, grounded people to chat with.

Over time I have come to know many of the "regulars" in the bar as well and I find it's always a good time... and rarely centered around drinking at any level beyond moderation. (The staff manage excessive drinking very efficiently, thus things rarely ever get out of control.) I, myself, can barely be described as a social drinker and I always have a great time. In other words, while there are people who drink to excess (as there are anywhere), it's primarily a social place... a place where everyday people can get together, shoot the breeze and let their hair down. It takes a little time to get to know people, but once you do... it's a guaranteed great time.

Like the song says.... "Mmmmm, I love this bar!" ... and so do I. It feels like home to me now... I feel great the minute I hear the music playing, even before I walk in the door... and the staff feel like family. Don't let the ruggedness of the place fool you or put you off. If you take the time to experience it, you may find, as I have, that it's filled with heart. :) Imagine, there I was, something of a "high brow" back in the south! Who knew?!
Let's just say, it pays to keep an open mind!
