Excellent walk and viewpoint
set de 2019
This waterfall is close to the parking area nearby and an easy walk to a great view. Well worth doing if you are in the area as it is quite stunning and doesn’t take much time. There is also a walk along the gorge to a viewing tower of the gorge The walk was a pleasant couple of Kms through a wooded area with views of the gorge, the river and some smaller waterfalls. If you don’t have time for the full walk, there is another parking space just up the road from the main falls where it’s a short walk to the viewing tower.

Best campground we've been to - campground rules were misleading
jul de 2019 • Amigos
We just spent the weekend there with a group of friends and our dogs, we reserved two sites beside each other online about a month ago. We arrived early Friday evening and stopped at the gatehouse to check in but because we had already paid and reserved online we were told to go ahead and set up. A girl came by Friday night to check that we were comfortably set up and we purchased wood from her for the fire pit. We spent the entire next day exploring the trails to the falls on both sides of the bridge and hanging out at our campsite. The sites were very private so it felt like we were the only ones there. Saturday night we went to the gatehouse to purchase more wood to be told that the prices were wrong from the previous night so we had to pay double of what we originally paid (which wasn't an issue.. it just wasn't very consistent). The next morning we packed up and parked our campers by the day use area so we could spend the afternoon by the river. On our walk to the river with the dogs we were stopped by one of the campground hosts and she told us that our dogs had to be on leash, (one of them already was and I put the other one on the leash and we continued down to the river). After an awesome afternoon spent in the sun to finish off a great weekend we walked back to our campers to leave and the same host was there and told us that our site was a mess and they spent all afternoon cleaning it (the only thing we left there was wood that we purchased for double the original price piled up by the fire pit.. maybe 10 pcs) and she proceeded to tell us that we were supposed to have our dogs tied up the entire weekend and we weren't allowed to park in the day use area because we blocked it? And she told us she had to turn people away because of where we parked even though there was plenty of room around us.

I understand that these are all park rules but they should have told us about the dog rules on Friday as we pulled in, when they dropped wood off on Friday, or Saturday when we bought wood a second time. We are responsible dog owners and respectable campers and we did not leave it a mess the way she said we did.

All in all, we loved the campground and enjoyed every minute of our stay until the end when we felt berated by the campground host. The staff should be more clear with what they expect from their campers and let them know what the rules are when they check in.. not at the end of their stay as they're leaving.

Worth the trip. Roads generally good hard or gravel surface. Maintenance ongoing.

The park is well kept and remote. Two falls to choose from. Both beautiful. A fossil searchers dream.

Very few people and campground staff were great and informative.

Fabulous scenery, walks alongside the falling Trout River, super-friendly and helpful campground managers, a pool of aggressive little grayling. Great Labour Day long weekend.

April is a no-go
abr de 2018 • A sós
I "visited" this park a week ago, which involved driving the gravel road out there and then turning around because the entrance to the park was buried in snow along with the day use area lot. If I had parked along the road, I think the soft gravel would have been a problem when I tried to leave. Heard that there is a waterfall both above and below the main falls.

Campsite given away
jul de 2017 • Família
First time at this campsite - beautiful campsite and we booked (online) a campsite that we wanted right next to the hiking trail only be disappointed to learn that our campsite was given away because she thought we were not going to arrive (we arrived at 7pm). She also told us that she had to turn away 4 other couples that showed up but there were at least 5 empty campsites. All in all - one of the nicest campgrounds north of 60.

Thank you for your feedback. I apologize that your campsite was given away so quickly. Considering the long drive-times, 7pm is a reasonable time to arrive. I will speak with my Manager about this event. Next time, if you're running late for a check-in, I hope you would consider calling the gatehouse directly to let them know that you're coming in late. The phone numbers to all NWT Park Gatehouses are located online here: https://nwtparks.ca/contact-us Again, my apologies that this happened to you.

Great camping and waterfalls

The Mackenzie highway is gravel, but well worth the trek. Watch for bison and bears. The campground is beautiful and quiet. Bathrooms and shower house are very clean. Great hiking trail to Coral Falls. You can see Sambaa Deh falls from the highway.

Excellent day trip to Sambaa Deh Falls and Trout River gorge
jul de 2016 • Amigos
Visited Sambaa Deh Falls for couple of hours in late July and really enjoyed this site. The approx. 140km long drive along highway 1 was not very pleasant: it’s a bit bumpy dirt road that will cover your car with so much dust! That aside, we didn’t overnight at the park, but rather used the day-use facilities such as the picnic tables for lunch. The inconvenient bit for those not overnighting is that the washrooms are nowhere near the office and those closer to the campsites are all honey buckets. The office was closed throughout our short visit (midday) therefore we couldn’t ask for any sightseeing advice etc. Overall however it looked like a very quiet and pleasant camping spot, with a direct path to Trout River bank and only few steps are needed from there to get to the rapids and the falls.
The falls itself is not very big or high, but yet very impressive with a beautiful high gorge around it. When walking to river/falls from the park, you actually need to walk up to the highway, cross the bridge and then walk down the path again if you want to continue the hike down that gorge. The path is clear enough, through a forest but close to the cliffs at times. After perhaps 10-15 minutes, you can walk into and down a crevice (it is very steep at times so you will be using the ropes provided; also make sure to have appropriate footware) to get to the rock “beach” down the gorge and enjoy some fishing or just relax with your feet in the freezing water. There are currents in this river, so I’m not sure about swimming in it… To get back up, you use the same crevice and path through the forest.
We probably spent approx. 2 hours here taking pictures, walking around and relaxing down at the river. I believe there are also spots up the river which are supposed to be good for fishing.
This falls is as mentioned not very big, but quite mighty with plenty of water rushing down the gorge. I would suggest seeing it not only from the banks, but also from the bridge above the river. This place is also great for some easy to spot fossils, which is a bonus! All in all I absolutely loved this area and would highly recommend it to others!

A very basic campground but strategically located alongside the highway. The falls and chasm are awe inspiring. Take a walk upstream from the falls along the rivers rocky ledges for a cool perspective of a northern river
