There is a lot of information and artifacts in the museum, including lengthy written (in small print) explanations. A guided tour would really bring the information and stories to life!!

A nice clean fort with a breeze at the top of the hill. Unfortunately we were there on Sunday and as expected the museums were closed.

Not well signed or publicised but an interesting little museum based in one of the old British fort buildings with nice grounds and excellent views.
The exhibits cover a huge period of history from the indigenous population through various occupations, the sugar cane growing period, slavery and more. A little haphazard perhaps but a good insight into what happened on the island in the past.
The grounds are nice with some enormous old trees and it’s situation offers some good views.

Worth a visit. Interesting museum with lots of information, relics etc about the history of the island. No cafe so take a cool drink & sit outside when your done & enjoy the views.

In the officers quarters at Fort King George, this museum shows an entire history of the people who have occupied the island and has a good selection of historical maps of the Caribbean.

I almost left Fort George because i didn't see any signage or signs of life to suggest that there was anything of note in the main structure at the fort. But a staff member returning from lunch directed me to enter. It is an interesting and very informative collection that tells of the pre-european history of Tobago in particular, and also the highpoints of its colonisation since then and a bit about the culture. It is a must view for history buffs and nature lovers

Small museum which show glimpses of Tobago through its many conquest wars. Items displayed were found throughout Tobago, Also many African pieces on show. Tobago menus (foods) and how it is prepared have a place in the museum.

Lots of cool history in here and at a reasonable entry fee. Some of the history is from neighbouring islands, but some of the maps, money, and artwork were really cool!

This museum is located in the honey colored brick building on the grounds of Fort King George. The museum's visiting hours were M-F, 9-4:30 when we visited. While entry to the grounds of the fort were free, the museum charged a small entrance fee like $1.50US. The main displays of the museum were housed in 3 small rooms, each one devoted to a certain aspect of island history - Amerindians, slavery and plantations, the fort. I enjoyed the artifacts relating to the history of the fort while the other displays seemed out of place at this location. The displays in 2 of the rooms showed the tools that Amerindians had made from shells, the location of the slave trade in Africa with African artifacts associated with those people, the growth of plantations and population in the various districts in Tobago. The 1 room devoted to history of the fort showed, among other things, a document written by a British navy commander in which he reported on his actions after attacking the fort held by the French which I found interesting to read. In this room there were also pictures on display of the uniforms worn by soldiers in the late 1700's/early 1800s.
This museum is best reached with a vehicle as the road to the fort is steep with no sidewalks and is unshaded. Even the shaded path from the Botanical Gardens below the hill leading to the fort would be a challenge, especially after a rainfall.
I found the visit to this museum and the grounds of the fort, especially to see the vista out to the ocean, to be worthwhile and enjoyed it more than our stroll through the Botanical Gardens in town.

Really enjoyed this and a must for $20TT if going to the fort. Many manuscripts and ledgers from plantation days. Spent longer in here than I thought and could have much longer had I read more of the detailed documents and exhibit details
