Sitio interesante

If you want to find El Tabasqueno on Google Maps and/or GPS type in "Acceso a Z.A. El Tabasqueño." It’s very well marked by road signs off Rt 261, you won't miss it. But the Acceso itself is not properly shown on the maps. It's a fairly new, about 2-3 km long narrow driveway, although onl;y some 500 m are drawn on the map. So when you look on your screen while driving it shows you driving thru a virgin field. Yet it's there and it's almost fully paved. The "almost" part means that the last 500-m stretch of the road is not only NOT paved, it’s left left by the road builders in as-is condition, a clearing in the jungle with pits, stones and boulders, and dried stream beds of torrential downpours, at 6-7% grade uphill. We saw the same kind of unfinished road at the site in Oxtankah. Anyway, we decided not to risk having our car stuck there. So we parked it at the end of the paved road and traveled the rest of the way on foot though on the way back we saw a SUV slowly but successfully negotiating it, and an old VW Beetle struggling uphill too.

The site is small but well maintained. The main attraction is a palace-like edifice with Chenes style ornaments. The entire visit (including walking) should take about an hour.

OT: I stopped writing reviews on TA since past summer as TA editors, being the morons that they are, deleted some of my reviews for not adhering to their standards even though some of those reviews were marked as helpful by other TA readers. But of course TA editors in their infinite wisdom know better what's helpful. So from now on I will write reviews only when I think the info may be important and helpful to other members. Sorry for making you reading my rant.

una opción mas para los que gustan de visitar ruinas y vestigios mayas, no es muy grande por lo qeu se recorre con facilidad, y bastante fresco al estar rodeado de muchos árboles, se peude subir a los edificios

Again, I recommend that you book this tour through El Tucan Tours. This is hard to get to, but well worth the visit. Another ruin that very few people have visited, but worth it and in excellent condition!

interesting little site

Although small, the well-preserved monster-mouth entrance, the free-standing tower, and the hilltop forested setting make this site well worth a visit. It can easily be combined with other sites in the area, such as Hochob. I only rate it as average due to the small size of the site. Driving the last few hundred meters can be a little challenging in a low-clearance vehicle, but we simply parked along the entrance road and walked a short distance.
