Could someone suggest a 3-4 day backcountry canoe circuit? We plan on going mid August.

Hi, we did the Big Dam/Frozen Ocean Loop departing from the Big Dam parking lot (near campsites A-D on the map) back to Jake's Landing. This worked well for us because we left cars at both parking lots so keep that in mind. Since we were a group of 7, we stayed at sites C, 7 and 12 but these sites are only for groups of 7-10. We did it in three nights but easily could have spent an extra night as the trek from 7 to 12 was quite long. If I was to do it again, I would recommend staying at campsite 3, and then probably 8 for the second night. Site 10 is on a small river that was very beautiful and if you can get site 15 that is highly recommended, otherwise 13 and 14 would also be good but these are all the more popular sites and may not be available during your visit. So depending on how much you planned on doing each day, you could do this in 3 or 4 nights.
Another thing to note is that when we were there it was the first week of July and the water levels were fairly low. Since we have not really received any considerable amounts of rain I suspect the water levels will be even lower in August and you will most certainly have to portage the canoe through areas on the lakes and rivers as we did back in July. We were fortunate enough though that we just had to get out of the canoes and let them glide over the water with no real trouble. However if the water levels have receded again, I would imagine you may have to have the canoe near empty to do this or potentially have to carry it altogether. On the bright side, the bugs weren’t bad in July and they should be non-existent now.
You should check out the Parks Canada website to see what sites will be available during your stay as well since that might determine what you can actually do.
