Last Wednesday, my family and I embarked on what we anticipated to be an exhilarating speed boat adventure in San Diego. We rented two boats — one for three people and another for two. As part of a larger group, we followed our instructor through the marina, and upon exiting, were instructed to accelerate to full speed.
The adventure initially seemed thrilling, with our children enjoying themselves immensely. However, the experience quickly turned alarming when our boat began to hit a series of high waves. This resulted in my wife being thrown into the air and falling back onto her seat, causing severe pain that made it impossible for her to sit.
Recognizing the gravity of the situation, we contacted the instructor via walkie-talkie. We were advised to return to shore alone while the rest of the group continued their journey. Navigating back to the shore was challenging, and we required the assistance of GPS.
Upon our slow and painful return, another boat from the company approached us, and at our request, an ambulance was called. My wife, in extreme pain, had to crawl from the boat to the pier, where she was then taken to the hospital. I returned to pick up our children, but regrettably, there was no further inquiry or assistance offered by the instructors.
After a night in the hospital, it was revealed that my wife suffered two vertebral fractures. She is now bound to a walker and a supportive corset, heavily reliant on painkillers. Recovery is expected to take several months, as per the doctors.
I urge potential adventurers to exercise caution with this company. While the experience can be fun, it's crucial to be aware of the risks involved and the company's apparent lack of robust emergency procedures and follow-up care. Our ordeal is a testament to the potential dangers and inadequate support that can turn a day of adventure into a prolonged period of pain and recovery.

Nice way to see the city from a different perspective. The speed boat was easy to drive after a short training from the guide. He led and we followed in our own boat. We had a walkie talkie connection that he used to give directions and narrate during stops. This was included with our City Pass and was an unexpected highlight.

This is probably one of the coolest activities you can do in San Diego. Such a fun thrill ride. We apparently only went 35mph but it feels like 100mph on the open water. My boyfriend and I took turns driving. The tour part was great, we got to see the city and cool sites where we got to stop and take some photos. We were making good time so at the end we had a little time to go off on our own. We went on a Monday morning and the water was still not a lot of movement or boats around. I highly recommend this experience to literally everyone.

Amazing experience. Amazing tour guide, Koani… BUT the boat have a hatch door which flaps heavily when going fast. The sounds sours the experience. Management needs to install an easy inexpensive fix to all the boats. Customer experience will improve considerably.

Our tour guide was fantastic and the experience was amazing! We got to see sea lions bathing in the sun and went under the massive air craft carrier. It was a bit frustrating being in a line with other boats, but it’s obviously the safest method.

I highly recommend this activity for all visitors and locals. Our tour guide Nate was knowledgeable and informative on all points of our tour. He made sure to point out Coronado Island and Coronado bridge and Point Loma. We got up front and close to the USS Midway and all the hot spots along Seaport Village. Water traffic was very low during our visit so Nate gave us open range to speed in and around the Bay for 30 minutes before the end of our tour. That was the best time of our tour! We will definitely be back!! Thanks Nate for a great time!

Fun boat tour , not quite as long as I had imagined , and we didn’t go anywhere near the bridge or that part of Coronado Island .
Nate was great - really knowledgeable and helpful to those who had no boating experience. Nice way to see a bit of San Diego from the water

We had no boating experience and had a great time. Captain K was a great guide and made sure we understood the safety details.

Ho fast do we get to go in the boat? I know it is sightseeing, but are there moments we can go fast?

How ruff are the waters during this adventure?

Doable. We had the most powerful boat and fit 3. So, we'd wait for the others wake to die down and bit before going full speed ahead. Now, we went over the summer. But, we were perfectly fine. The boats are quite capable.

We are two adults and 3 kids (ages 11, 9 & 7). Can we fit in one boat?
URSULA HAND

No, probably not. I took my son who was 13 and my daugther who was 16, and myself. But, I booked the largest boat they had and we were tight. But, if kids and parents are small people and the boat company lets you....maybe? But, I'd say probably not. You could rent the two small boats and your wife drive one and you the other. Slit the kids based on ability and size from there maybe?
